Go Fish Concert

These guys are really amazing. If you have any kids ages 10 and under in your house, begin developing a library of Go Fish CDs and DVDs.
(gofishguys.com)

Seriously, kids' music can be so lame, and I love Bob and Larry as much as the next guy, but a girl can only take so much.

That's why this Bible-lovin' group gets lots of air play in our house.

We discovered Go Fish a few years ago. I went to a Hearts at Home conference and they were the musical guests. I knew my kids would love them, so I came home with the CD 'Snazzy' and created little Go Fish freaks, which was fine with me - especially when they're singing the Ten Commandment Boogie.

Before the concert they threw out huge beach balls - it's a mini-mosh pit!

They went into the crowd for awhile, which is really brave and I imagine, a little dangerous, with all those ankle biters.

Playing with our light sticks!

We loved these steam-shooters - is this Go Fish or AC/DC?

I Love This Book.

I can't get enough of this book!  Be sure to grab a copy before the movie comes out at Thanksgiving.  I read it in one night (well, it does have a lot of pictures...).

You can read more about the book here.

Poetry Thursday

Bookmobile

I spend part of my childhood waiting
for the Sterns County Bookmobile.
When it comes to town, it makes a
U-turn in front of the grade school and
glides into its place under the elms.

It is a natural wonder of late
afternoon. I try to imagine Dante,
William Faulkner, and Emily Dickinson
traveling down a double lane highway
together, country-western on the radio.

Even when it arrives, I have to wait.
The librarian is busy, getting out
the inky pad and the lined cards.
I pace back and forth in the line,
hungry for the fresh bread of the page,

because I need something that will tell me
what I am; I want to catch a book,
clear as a one-way ticket, to Paris,
to London, to anywhere.

"Bookmobile" by Joyce Sutphen, from Coming Back to the Body.

I Promise

It's easy to get scared and worry when I think about her future.

I wonder what kind of world it will be in 2030.

Will she know she is deeply loved?

Will she know she was designed for more than this world has to offer?

Then these words come to mind, the words of the most repeated promise in God's Word:

FEAR NOT.

Fear not. I am with you.

Don't be scared. Daddy's here.

And that's all I need to know. That's what I hold onto. She will never be alone, and she will never have to fear. I only have to show her that love and point her to The One whose promises are never broken.

Catalyst 2011

Oh man, I'm so pooped.

I am at a conference that is kind of rocking my world at the moment. It will take awhile to process everything I heard and wrote down today.

We heard from Andy Stanley, Jim Collins, Dave Ramsey, Judah Smith and Francis Chan, one of my favorite people ever.

And then I met this woman who looked exactly like my mother and I took her picture. She was very kind.

Stay tuned for Day Two!

Location:Atlanta, Georgia

Wow.

Aaron and I saw this last night.  Cried like a baby.

I wasn't sure I wanted to see it, but I was so glad I did.  It's a better film than "Fireproof" in my opinion because EVERYONE can relate to it.  Well done.  Well done.

Please.  Go to this movie.  Take a crew of folks with you.  Bring strong tissues.  Yell things like, "Amen!" and "Yes, Brotha!" during good scenes.  Then go see it again.
